The Inn at McCurdy House is perched in what we think
is the most wonderful spot in Port Townsend. We are
centrally located literally steps from historic Downtown
Port Townsend, and equally close to the Uptown district.
Just a few short blocks from the Farmer's
Market, a multitude of historic buildings,
shopping, dining, and much more.
Port Townsend was first established in 1851 and was
soon called the “City of Dreams”. Slated
to become one of the largest harbors on the West Coast,
the railroad’s end-point was once scheduled for
this town. Most of the original architecture still remains
and it is now one of only three Victorian seaports on
the National Register of Historic Places. This unique
city has much to offer. Self-guided maps of driving
tours and guided uptown and downtown walking tours encourage
the full enjoyment of its rich history. Whatever your
interest, we have more of art, history and nature to
offer – a world away from major highways, airports
and the day-to-day stress of city living. We invite
you to come relax, explore and enjoy our beautiful area.
A sampling of the activities to savor is Fort
Worden, a 500-acre state park and conference
center with a diverse range of year-round activities
including a wide variety of arts workshops and retreats
(many brought to us by Centrum)
which culminate in outstanding open-air concerts. Many
artists’ studios and galleries line the main street
including painters, glass and textile artists, potters
and sculptors. Several theatrical groups present locally
produced shows for your pleasure. Leisurely walk and
browse through the many unique shops scattered in both
downtown and uptown, stopping for a sweet treat at one
of our ice-cream fountains. Great eating is always a
favorite holiday pastime with the only complaint being
too many places to choose from – fine dining often
features locally grown organic produce and fresh seafood
when in season! History comes alive by enjoying one
our many museums including the Jefferson
County Historical Society Museum and Research
Center, the Rothschild
House, Aero
Museum, the Commanding
Officer’s Quarters, Marine
Science Center, and the Puget Sound Coast
Artillery Museum at Fort Worden. Enjoy the many hiking
and biking
trails, go boating
or sailing, or simply drive to the many
beautiful spots within the peninsula to provide a welcome
escape to nature and a touch of wilderness. Select from
one of the area’s events calendars, which feature
something for everyone most weekends of the year.
Port Townsend, in addition to being a destination in
itself, is close to the 101 Olympic Peninsula Loop,
Whidbey Island via the ferry
(10 miles), Sequim (30 miles), Anacortes (also by the
ferry
- 40 miles total), Port Angeles (45 miles), the Olympic
National Park (50+ miles), Victoria B.C. via the Victoria
Express or Coho
ferry leaving from Port Angeles (70 miles total), and
many other wonderful places. Port Townsend can be reached
in as little as 2 hours from Seattle via the Bainbridge
Island ferry, or take a more leisurely
drive past Olympia and up the 101, in about 3 1/2 hours.
